Winter 2011 / Atelier

The Andersen & Lauth winter 2011 collection is called Atelier. For winter 2011 and coming seasons we will have always a part of the collection as Atelier.
Atelier is a capsule collection within the collection that celebrates our love for handmade and unique pieces. As you know It is no secret that we Love to make beautiful handmade clothes.
We are blessed to be working with so many great people. Many of the best hand-embroidery craftsmen in the world work on our Atelier Andersen & Lauth collection.
We study the history of embroideries. Each period has it´s own charm, it´s own niche and look. Our favorite is the victorian period. Imagine a world without
factories, without technical limitations, each piece of clothing made by hand. All clothes in Atelier are hand-made in our ateliers. Those pieces reflect the love and
passion we have for the old fashion workmanship, before the modern technological era. These designs are feminine, exciting, timeless.

The collection in whole is inspired by the 1920's women. And what a great period that was! Between two World Wars, women were trying to find their identities,
become more emancipated and succeed in a man's world. They would stop wearing the conservative corset, they would wear knee-high skirts, low waisted dresses,
pants, cloche hats and the bob cut.  This is the time when women revolutionized the fashion world and introduced a more masculine look that soon became
popular. Flat-chested women were considered attractive. Even the fabrics we're getting  a makeover in the 1920's. This is when the rayon was invented, being used
to fabric stockings, since silk was more expensive. Also, cotton and lace were widely used. Icons of the 1920's were Evelyn Brent, Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford,
Greta Garbo, Claudette Colbert, Louise Brooks and more. Let's not forget another symbol of this time period:  "THE FLAPPER". A flapper was a woman who was
not afraid to take risks and loved to push boundaries. She would have a libertine approach towards life, art and sex, she would listen to jazz and take late night
outings.

The Andersen & Lauth collection is a Romantic journey through time.  We simply think that the women of the world deserve beutiful things made with Love and true passion.

It is winter...

...and we are starting the design of our winter 2011 following the success of our spring 2011 collection. We always start with:

Traveling to our favorite places. This time New York, Miami and London. What we do first is work on colors and embroideries. We always base our color palette on our vintage, romantic colors in washed down soft shades.

Then we start working with our hand embroidery people on various embroideries and techniques. We need around 100 embroideries to complete sketching each collection. This takes weeks to research, work on in details, sort out color combinations, thread thickness and finishes. It is always a beautiful period and at the same time extremely timely as the final touch on each embroidery is crucial to the outcome of each finalized model. In the atelier there are hours of conversations about minimal changes in technics and colors. And lot´s of coffee.....

Then we work on various patterns. In each collection we have around 250 new shapes and silhouettes. Involved in that work is enormous time spent on pattern making. See some photos of the new patterns made in " pattern making cotton ".

and at this point sketching, sketching, sketching, sketching, sketching, sketching, sketching.......

Playing with shades, colors, bead finishes......

Different hand techniques come to life...

one embroidery after the other comes to life....

just for fun, in between coffees.....

We just sent out the first invitation for the aw 11 to the customers......just to warm up...
